Health Coaching

A Health Coach is a supportive mentor and wellness authority who works with clients to help them feel their best through food and lifestyle changes.

Unlike other health enthusiasts who prescribe one way of dieting or promote a particular product or exercise, I tailor individualized health coaching programs by helping you understand your health challenges, investigating root causes of your symptoms and by helping you explore the food and lifestyle choices that best support you.

My Story

Becoming a Health Coach was a direct result of a quest to find help for my sister who suffered greatly from ulcerative colitis. For almost ten years I watched her life as she knew it get stripped away as her symptoms incapacitated her at times. She was put on every medication known to treat the disorder, hospitalized, given special diets and administered experimental drugs to no avail.

My quest and research resulted in me furthering my education in the realm of diet, nutrition and lifestyle and eventually becoming a certified Health Coach. As I learned how to nourish the body through nutrition and balance it physiologically, I shared the information with my sister and experimented with implementing changes for myself. I have to admit that I was quite skeptical about the simplicity of the suggested nutritional and lifestyle changes compared to the severity of her symptoms. That is not to say that her journey to healing was easy. The process required trust but most of all patience and perseverance.

I am pleased to report that my sister is quite well and managing her disease free of medications. In the process of helping her, I improved my own health by eliminating symptoms that I thought were normal and inevitable. Having found the right nutritional and lifestyle balance that works for me, I no longer suffer from migraine headaches and joint pain which I had accepted as an inheritance from my Mom; PMS symptoms which I thought were a necessary evil of being a woman; and tiredness which I thought came from being a busy working mother of three. Being able to control these symptoms, I feel better than I ever thought was possible.

My Training

I received my health coaching education from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where they teach a theory called bio-individuality – there’s no one right diet that works for everyone all the time. Studying over 100 dietary theories, I was inspired and guided by more than 80 experts, researchers, and doctors who are at the forefront of nutrition and health.

I furthered my education with internationally acclaimed functional nutritionist Andrea Nakayama, founder of Replenish PDX. Through her accredited Holistic Nutrition Lab and Full Body Systems programs, I learned about the complexities of the human body at a cellular level which helped me to understand WHY one dietary approach may have completely the opposite effect on someone with the same diagnosis and how physiological imbalances may cause undesirable symptoms.

Who should consider health coaching?

Everyone and anyone who wants to feel their best. It is a misconception that you could benefit from a health coach only when presented with a health concern or diagnosis. People fall into the trap of thinking “it’s par for the course” on several symptoms based on gender, age, or genetics. “Oh, it’s just my hormones””I’m just getting old””My father had it so I’m blessed with it” or they have had it for so long that they have learned to live with it.
